Tenex Health TX™

What is Tenex Health TX™?

The tendon pain many of us feel in our joints can be caused by a number of factors, including trauma (damage to the tendon from a hit, twist or pull to the joint); or repetitive motion (damage to the tendon from overuse in work, exercise or activity).  In each of these situations, the tendon tissue is damaged and is unable to operate at full capacity.  This damaged tendon tissue causes pain.  Eventually, the damaged tissue in the tendon will limit our ability to move the joint and perform the activities that we need or like to do.  If a damaged tendon is not treated, joint pain will likely become worse over time.

Tenex Health TX™ for Percutaneous Tenotomy and Percutaneous Fasciotomy-is based on technology developed in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic.  Tenex Health TX™ combines ultrasound imaging for visualization to pinpoint the location of the damaged, tendon tissue with the advanced TX MicroTip™ to specifically cut, break-down and extract the damaged tissue and stimulate a healing response.  Since the surrounding healthy tissue is not disturbed, patients enjoy less discomfort and quicker recovery times versus traditional open surgical procedures.  Tenex Health TX achieves the same goal as open surgery but is minimally invasive and performed under local anesthesia in a nonsurgical setting.  Most patients return to normal activities within 2-6 weeks.

What areas are treated with Tenex Health TX™ at North Platte Foot Clinic?

Tendon pain takes many forms:

  • Plantar Fasciitis (Foot)
  • Achilles Tendon (Ankle)

Who is a candidate for Tenex Health TX™?

“Silent Sufferers”-individuals with chronic tendon pain.

Those individuals who have tried all (or a combination of) rest; cortisone injections; medication and Physical Therapy. Patients who do not want to undergo surgery due to expense, potential risks and side effects and/or a lengthy recovery period (with restricted activity).

Why would a patient want Tenex Health TX™?

  • Quick pain relief
  • Return to normal activities rapidly
  • Local sedation used instead of general anesthesia
  • No sutures, no stitches (tiny incision requires only a small, adhesive bandage)

Is it painful?

Pain is personal.  Since Tenex Health TX™ is performed under local anesthesia, the affected area is numb.  There may be some swelling to the area.  Most patients simply take over-the-counter pain medication for any swelling that may occur after the procedure.

Will my insurance cover?

Most insurance payers cover the procedure. Patients should contact their plan administrator for specific information about coverage.
